So there must be some HP hardware. seen it now on Pitstop
HP Officejet Pro 85 USB Device

I recommend
1. Create a restore point

2. Go to the HP site and download the latest software for the hardware. On the HP site ONLY disable A/V and firewall for the download and save the download

3. Uninstall the HP software for whatever it is -

4. With A/V still disabled install the software.

Do not forget to re-enable A/V and firewall


and as an aside issue IOLO System Mechanic or whatever derivative it is - SHOULD IMO not be on the computer at all, but should certainly NEVER be used in an attempt to solve a problem and ONLY ever after backing up the registry.

Sorry, but don't understand some of your instructions. Questions -

1. Don't know what you mean when you say to disable A/V and firewall on HP website only.

2. Are you telling me to uninstall System Mechanic which I just installed recently by suggestion from Geekstogo?

3. I downloaded HP update files for HP officejet 8500 printer two days ago and two of the downloads installed with no problem but the third, which appeared to use windows installer, failed to install. I have these download files saved in a folder on my HDD. Note: This printer is connected to my computer via USB cable.

4. When you say to uninstall the HP software and re-install, do you mean to re-install from the original HP installation CD?

I apologize if my questions appear stupid. I've worked with computers for over 20 years and have even built some from scratch but its hard to keep up with the latest jargon.

Some A/V programs although a download appears to work, can corrupt the download.

The error you have is caused by a temp file which is related to a download.

There is nothing wrong per se with your installer otherwise you would have problems with Windows updates and you report all Ok there.

Where please was the recommend to install System mechanic. - we have NEVER recommended such software

Disconnect your printer.
Uninstall from Add/Remove programs all HP printer software
OR from the HP files themselves if they have an uninstaller.

Insert the CD.
Connect the printer when instructed to do so.

Go to the HP site and download the latest driver.
Follow the instructions on the site for the installation
I cannot provide your exact driver installation as there are too many variants of the office jet pro

Problem solved after uninstalling HP 8500 printer.
Re-installed printer and updates. Problem did not return.

ps: System Mechanic suggestion came from another topic concerning pc performance. I can't remember the Tech's name nor the particular topic I read within the last couple of weeks. You may be able to find it thru your search window.
