Hi,

A few questions for you:

- What generation is your iPod?
- When you connect the iPod with the USB cable to your computer, does the screen turn on? Does it get stuck on the Apple loading screen? Does it stay black?
- What kind of "format" did you do? Reset through iTunes?

So it's just in normal use, the menu buttons do not work, alright.

You can try to do a hard reset by holding the follow keys: Menu + Center

Let me know how it works.
