Hi kyn,

That indicates that maybe your PC have dirty vents and can't cool your system enough.

Is this PC or notebook?

Please turn it OFF and wait for some time for system to cool it self. Turn it on and try to run my steps. Let me know results.

Hello mailprog,

I was having my computer cleaned by a friend, there was a lot of dust caked on. It should be good to go now, I'll try completing the next step, and give you the results in a few minutes..

Aside from the internet, there are a few problems with my computer. My sound no longer works, it says no audio output device is installed. Also when I go to any files from start>All programs, every folder is empty.

You need to reinstall your sound drivers. Do you have CD with audio drivers?

Also when I go to any files from start>All programs, every folder is empty.

This is also done by malware. It tends to remove and hide your files.

Download Unhide.exe from here to your desktop and run ti. It should unhide all your files.

Hello mailprog, long hours...thank you for sticking with me!

I do not have a CD with audio drivers, not only that but my laptop does not recognize CD's.
I've tried going to the acer website and downloading the driver I need, but did not work.

Also, Unhide.exe did bring some of my programs back, a lot of the folders are still empty though.
Some folders are not even showing up, such as Recovery Manager. I even tried typing it in the search box.

Hi kyn,

This sounds to me like your CD/DVD drive is dead... I'll try to find some help on this at the end of this fix.

Sometimes infection actually deletes shortcuts. Let's try to find them and restore manually one by one.

Step 1

  • Download

Attached File  restore.zip   899bytes   96 downloads to your desktop
  • UnZIP it and double click restore.vbs to run it
  • When you see Enter folder name box write temprestore and press OK button
  • Wait until program finishes and it will create Report.txt
  • Post Report.txt here for me.

Step 2

Run OTL again

  • Double click on the icon to run it (If running Vista or Windows 7, right click on it and select "Run as an Administrator"). Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Press button named None Posted Image
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    %AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\*.* /s
    %UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\*.* /s
    %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\*.* /s

  • Now click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open OTL.Txt. This file is also saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file and post it here to me

Step 3

Please don't forget to include these items in your reply:

  • Report.txt log
  • New OTL log
It would be helpful if you could post each log in separate post

As you know you must restore your shortcuts manually. You have all shortcuts now in temprestore folder that you created by running restore.vbs.

For example to restore Malwarebytes shortcut you must:

  • Right click on \temprestore\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.lnk shortcut and select Copy
  • Now click Start the All Programs and find Malwarebytes folder. Right click on it and select Paste
  • If you get prompt for Administrator permission press Continue button.
  • After that you will see shortcut in Start menu.

You can do that for all missing shortcuts otherwise you must reinstall programs. Please report progress to me.

Okay I've restored some of the shortcuts, some of them were not listed in the temprestore folder, so I will try reinstalling.
