Go to this page.

Download the Diag504fCD.iso half way down the page

Make a bootable CD using the imburn you already have.

Boot up on it and Select the drive

Run the Quick test and then the Extended test.

Post me the results.

okay I went back to the command prompt and this is what i see

Ill type out what I see:

MMicrosoft Windows XP ™ Recovery Console.

The Recovery Console provides system and recovery functionality

Type Exit to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer

Te path or file specific is not valid.
C:\>

Idk but for some reason I can't see windows when you were mentioning it earlier.

You gave me these steps..

The Windows Setup... will proceed.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the Administrator password (usually empty).

You should be in the C:\WINDOWS folder. This is the same as the C:\WINDOWS folder you see in explorer.

From the command prompt, enter: chkdsk /r (note the space between chkdsk and /r)

Allow it to complete undisturbed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

but It went straight to the command prompt right after I pressed R for recovery.

Maybe its because my windows xp might not be genuine?

Why do you suspect that?

This is a significant piece of information. I need to consult my instructor on this issue.
