You still have the Host file problem

Could you reboot to safe mode please and run the following OTL fix

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run
To disable MBAM
Open the scanner and select the protection tab
Remove the tick from "Start with Windows"
Reboot and then run OTL

    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.127.226 aviraplatinum.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.127.226 www.aviraplatinum.com

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

It seems like the computer is functioning just fine. No bugs or issues or error messages.

The one issue/concern is the one I mentioned before - when I put it on standby in order to wake the computer back up I must press the on/off button on the tower. I used to be able to move the mouse or touch the keyboard and it would wake up.

I don't know what changed, as I didn't manually change anything. Cause for concern? Can I set it to wake up by mouse movement somehow?

Could you check the power options in control panel > Device manager > Mouse
Ensure there is a tick in the wake from standby box

Great! I fixed the mouse issue. Thanks!

I'm currently still using my computer to do some work.

I'll run the above programs/fix later this evening, then post/get back to you.

Thanks for the help though! And sorry for letting the thread go dormant.

Regarding post #31 and disabling MBam...I thought we tried this earlier and decided this version doesn't allow you to disable it. Am I wrong?

I have had a word with the MBAM people

And they reckon that disabling start with windows - rebooting and it should no longer stop OTL

Hmm, I'm not exactly clear on your previous message. Can I disable MBAM? I tried to, but didn't see anything. And I didn't follow your message.

I did though try to run the custom fix in otl.

This message just popped up:
The file or directory C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-3650238891-4050404084-1215222253-1005\Dc17.log is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

I clicked "ok".

And now "The system requires a reboot to finish removing files. Click Ok to reboot now."

I clicked ok.

What should I do next?

Rebooted, started in regular mode.

It asked if I wanted to run otl. Yes. Then I got this message: 1 unhandled error(s) occurred while the Network Associates error reporting service was not running, process these now?

Yes/No.

OK that error was because OTL tried to run a command that is not supported in safe mode, so is not a problem

With MBAM it needs to be set not to run with windows, rebooted and then OTL will function

How is the computer behaving now ? Any problems ?

It seems just fine.

Should I run anything else? Or just see how it goes and monitor it?

I started it up this morning & there don't seem to be any issues at all.

Anything else to check?

Just things to remove/delete?

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
