One question though, is your video built onboard or is it a add on card?

Nope since it is a laptop it will be onboard.
That will make it a lot harder if it turns out to be the video is the issue.
Is there any warranty still effective on it?

It's not what you suggested because right after I did it, open back up browser to respond that I did it, and once again the screen goes dark. I don't have any warranty on it I believe, but if this is an issue that will stick around I will get another one come Finals because I don't want the worst to happen.

You might try to get hold of the manufacturer and check on what a new motherboard would cost but be prepared for sticker shock. Motherboard and labor to install it may be as much if not more then buying a new one. The good thing is you can backup your data while it is still working so you don't lose anything.
Just to check things can you do the following please.

Go to
    Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y

If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Reboot after your done running chkdsk /r...
then Go to Start...Run and type: eventvwr.msc press Enter
When Event Viewer opens, click on Applications... then scroll down to Winlogon and double-click on it. This is the log created after running Checkdisk...copy and paste the log back here

We will advise after studying the log.

OK just a quick clarification please. Are you actively working on the system when this happens or is it when the system sits idle for a while?

Most of the time, I am actively using it. It has happened before when I just left it sitting idle as well.
