Hi Geeks,
Skype connects to different IPs and initiates different connections on my PC.
I have a firewall installed on my PC and i allow those connections.
Are the skype connections safe?? or is there anything better that you suggest me to follow??

I really feel insecure with all these IPs connecting to me.
So please help me out.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Greenwarrior,

If you have noted down a list of IP addresses I am sure you could perform a WHOIS search to see from where they originate. Also you could possibly contact Skype support with the list to confirm they are recognised IP addresses that belong to Skype.

I would imagine due to the nature of the software it would have a range of IP addresses to which it connects.

Cheers

Hi Troy,
It looks like it connects to other skype users in different countries.

And also somewhere I read that skype routes others chat sessions using users PCs.
I really tried to confirm this in various security forums but no one even had an idea of skype's in-depth functionality. I was wondering that is skype unpopular or what?? LOL.
I thought that Security experts have an idea of the popular software atleast.

Okay anyways can you confirm this??

skype routes others chat sessions using users PCs

And also i have heard that skype doesnt work if you dont allow these ips connect to your pc.

To be honest I wouldn't have a clue, I don't even use it myself. I'm sure if anyone is familiar with it they would post up some info here to help you.

Otherwise the only option I would recommend would be to contact Skype support.

You could try blocking them all and then seeing if it still works?
