Hi There-
I am malware free- unable to download the recent update "definition update for windows defender kb915597 definition 1.123.12222.0. Update is telling me I have to still install this and Im getting the same fail message. Some updates were not installed".Failed :1 update- Windows Update 8007007E failed. Have windows 7 on sony laptop. Please advise

are you using MSE...if so it disables windows defender...

I don't think I do. (i assume your referencing microsoft security essentials?)

avira- and have malwarebytes but dont think malwarebyts runs unless I run it

check for windows defender in the add remove programs section in the control panel...try uninstalling it

all i see is windows live essentials 2011-also have spyware blaster FYI

would you mind trying microsoft security essentials...if so download it from here but don't install it until you uninstall avira by using their removal tool here and reboot...then install MSE

There seems to be 2 options which do I use? Cant I just go unistall it in my programs section? If I see that I have MSE already am I running it now ? What will that do? sorry for all the questions..

try just uninstalling it in the add remove section of the control panel...
you can't have two anti virus programs...they will fight and bog your system down...
so uninstall avira then reboot and install MSE

the amd64 is for 64 bit operating systems
the x86\ is for 32 bit OS
