We've been having a problem with my mom's facebook not loading correctly, and only in IE8. The most recent sstuff shows up on her News Feed, but the stuff that is supposed to load itself at the bottom as you scroll down just cycles and cycles (the little ticky bar) and doesn't actually load the older stuff.

We get the yellow triangle at the problem, and when I click I get:

This problem is only with facebook, and only with IE. A friend of hers signed on with her IE8, and it worked just fine. I don't want her using my Firefox, because she tends to screw things up, and I'd rather it not include Firefox. No, I'm not being mean. IE8 is up-to-date, and IE9 is apparently not an option because the computer is on XP.

Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.

Download TFC by OldTimer http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe to your desktop.

Double-click TFC.exe to run it.

Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator

TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.

* Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process.
* Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.
* Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished.

Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.

Lets see if that has any effect first

TFC is something I use pretty routinely, and it hasn't done anything to make the situation with Facebook better.

What about No Add-ons mode this is good for troublshooting issues too.

The No Add-ons mode allows IE 8 temporarily run without any add-ons like toolbars, ActiveX controls, etc.

To run your IE in the no add-ons mode:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

There is no Internet Explorer option in my System Tools folder. Is there another way to run it?

Second way is Win + R key which opens Run command, type iexplore –extoff and this will open up IE8 without add-ons.

All I get is "Cannot dispay the webpage", and it doesn't turn the add-ons off.

That's odd you don't see the option for Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) in the System Tools Folder. Wondering if a System Restore would help that issue might want to try that. If not uninstalling IE8 might be a consideration too as something to try, the computer then will revert back to IE7 if that was installed prior you could then see if IE7 works, then reinstall IE8 sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling will work.

Yeah, that's never been in my System Tools, regardless of the IE version. I run my Disk Cleanup weekly, so I'm pretty sure I'd have seen it.

A system restore is not an option on this computer; it's borrowed.

Can't I just turn off the add-ons from somewhere within IE?

I don't think, I have IE9 installed. Wonder if you could disable each one. In IE9 that I'm using you click Tools in the browser then look for manage add ons, I guess you could disable them there and see what that does.

I started having trouble playing Words with Friends on FB in IE8. I noticed a lot of people having issues with Google Chrome and FB so I uninstalled Chrome and now Words works. Still can't get FB to work at all with AOL.
