IE7 is installed and updated. I checked for updates again, but there aren't any.
Adobe Flash player and Shockwave player are installed.
The Java version is 1.7.0_03 and it is working.

I think I am now caught up on what you asked me to do.

What is the current status of your computer? What is not working?

Do you still get the Image Transfer, Failed to initialize application message at boot?

Uninstall your sound device via Device Manager then reboot. Windows will rediscover it and reload the drivers. See if that fixes it.

If not download the latest driver from the manufacturers web site and install it, see if that helps.

The sound card drivers were missing as you suspected. They are now installed and the sound is working. While in the Device Manager, I noticed that Ports and Other Devices had yellow exclamation points.

I restarted the computer and got the Image Transfer, Failed to initialize application message.

Download and install the Chipset driver from the manufacturers web site. That should take care of the Ports and Other Devices errors.

Here is the screen shot of the error message.

I am currently running IE7 and it seems to be running fine.

click start...run...type in msconfig and press enter...start up tab...uncheck everything except your anti virus and if its a laptop leave Synaptics or alps ticked or your touch pad won't work...
reboot...there will be a small windows saying you changed the way windows starts...yada yada
just put a tick in the don't show this message again or you will get that message every time you boot...now did you get the other error message

Done. Everything in the startup tab is unchecked except for avast!

No, I did not get the error message, Image Transfer, Failed to initialize application.

I now see an icon in my task bar for RocketLife Communicator that wasn't there before. I don't know what it is, but I know that I didn't install it.

go here for removal steps for Rocketlife Communicator...
or you can try uninstalling HP Photo Creations program...it came with HP Photo Creations
after removing it and a reboot let us know if you still have any issues...

HP used to have great printers but now their software to run them is HUGE...700MB on the install cd that comes with the printer then it immediately downloads another 400MB and when done you will have icons on your desktop that you can't remove or delete even after uninstalling all of HPs crap...I will never buy or recommend another HP printer ever

I've never used it so, I removed HP Photo creations.

I was told by another tech on geeks to go that I shouldn't uncheck anything in the start up tab. So I am wondering why you had me uncheck everything except avast! Since Carbonite was unchecked, it is not running. Correction: Carbonite IS running.

I haven't tried to run every program to see if they all work. So, I may run into something later on. But IE7 seems to be working fine. However, some web sites, including Geeks to Go, need IE8 to operate properly.

When do you think I will be able to download IE8?
