and that is the marketplace.

for a while now i have been attempting to install one app on my kindle: GemRB. For those unfamiliar, it allows users to play baldur's gate on their phone or (supposedly) tablet. here is where my issue occurs. the amazon marketplace is very restricted as opposed to the android's.

so any explanation you might have to move one measly little app to one gigantic pain in my [bleep], please keep it very simple; see, i am technilogically "slow", i can use technology to some extent, and excell in some areas... but in matters like this i am braindead, so the more "broken down" each step is, the more thankful i will be.

any help will be greatfully appreciated, and i am willing to try any method (so long as it is explained clearly, and is not illegal, or violates the kindle fire contract) and once again, please dont assume i will know what you mean when you say (for example) reinstall the apk.

Welcome to Geeks to Go!

The short answer? If the app is not in the Amazon Android Market you can't install in on a Kindle Fire.

The long answer? The Google Play Store uses a Google Account to associate you with the apps you've purchased, while the Kindle Fire uses your Amazon account. The only way to purchase and install Google Play apps is to root your device.

Rooting basically exploits a weakness to provide administrator or 'root' access. With these new permissions, you can install Google Play, and your app. In case you're wondering, it is legal to root your device. However, you may find the root process a bit daunting.
  • Download the latest version of Kindle Fire Utility to your PC and unzip it to a folder.
  • Connect your Kindle Fire to the PC with a USB cable.
  • Double-click the install_drivers.bat file on your PC to setup your computer to recognize the tablet.
  • Double-click the run.bat file to start the utility and follow the on-screen prompts.
The other way you reference, involving APKs is not legal. At least not for commercial, copyrighted software. An APK is the installation file. Similar to an .exe, or .msi on Windows systems.
