I am the sole user of my laptop and log-on as myself and as Administrator.
However, I occasionally wish to uninstall or delete files but am unable to
do so. Messages appear saying access is denied and that I need Administrator
privileges.

I have Eraser and Glary programs but they, too, are unable to remove some files.

The present program in question is Avast software, which is redundant. I have
opened its properties and examined the security window and attempted to change the
permissions but lose my way with the 'objects' etc.

Can anybody give me a sysematic approach to changing permissions; or assuming full
Administrator control? Or am I asking too much?

Have you tried uninstalling Avast! from Safe Mode?

Avast! also has a removal tool, but it should be run from Safe Mode, as well. Avast! Removal Tool Be sure to read the instructions if you use the removal tool.

I use Avast aswell and I can't say I have problems at all

Are there any config option in Avast that could cause this? I would have a check

Also are you sure you're logging on with an Administrator account?

What about the default admin account, is this the one you're using ?

Start a run command and type "compmgmt.msc" and hit enter

You should see computer management , navigate to users and check the default admin account

Also, in open another run command and type in "cmd"

Once in command prompt type "gpresult /r"

Let that load and check the security groups currently associated with you're account

Problem solved, thank you. Some of the 'command' instructions faltered
but I learned a lot.
