I've read the "blue screen of death stop codes" posted by cheathawk1, and i'm still puzzled.
last night i got the following one : 0x0000000f4 (0x00000003,0x88e197d0,0x88e19944,0x805d2970).
and then this morning i got "Stop 0x000000ED" and,as i understood,it's relevant if you have an ATA disk or controler. i have nothing of the sort. i have to IDE HDD *40gb + 80gb. in the SATA controlest there's nothing plugged in. or is there something else i have to understand trough ATA?

Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message. One user, who experienced this on return from Standby mode on Win XP SP2, found the cause was that Windows was installed on a slave drive;

The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed. This error also might occur during an upgrade to Win XP on systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work normally after you restart.

The one common factor is the hard drive so we need to check that first.


Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, try the Hitachi DFT CD Image version of the software

thanks a lot dud, i have installed on my computer "tune utilities " can i run the tune up disk doctor to find the problem?
i don't have an floppy or cd-rom in my computer.
the pc restarted the first time (the 0x0000000f4) while playing fallout new vegas, and it froze a couple of times because of it. the second one (0x000000ED) occurred while i restarted my pc after a blue screen ( 0x0000000f4). besides that it didn't freeze at all.

If there is a hard drive diagnostics test on the utilities then yes. If it has a extended test that is the one you need to run.
Please post your computer specs.

I take it this is a custom build system then?
Once you have done the hard drive test please do the following after posting the results of the test.



Go to

Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y
If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Reboot after your done running chkdsk /r...
then Go to Start...Run and type: eventvwr.msc press Enter
When Event Viewer opens, click on Applications... then scroll down to Winlogon and double-click on it. This is the log created after running Checkdisk...copy and paste the log back here


We will advise after studying the log.

If it is closing in Windows then that is why. You have to redo the steps in post 6 and then post the new log as you did before.
