silly qn. how do I actually get the specific driver to install?

I "download" the file, but it doesnt show up on the list of downloads and doesnt do anything when I try to click on it. Probably missing something REALLY obvious:(

Get me a screenshot of all the drivers DriverMax is saying you need to update. I can then tell you where to start. You may need more then one screenshot depending on how many drivers it says you need to update.

there. amazing how much stuff can be out of date on a laptop office tech support pronounced as "completely updated"

Download WhoCrashed from the link in my signature below
This program checks for any drivers which may have been causing your computer to crash....

Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.

Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next
Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon then click on Install and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish
Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it Say Yes
WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it
Copy and paste it into your next reply

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

Have you updated the rest of the drivers now or just the two I started you with?
You had 15 drivers total showing to be updated. 13 if you updated the two I suggested first.

It has been 19 days since your last response and I was wondering if the issue has been resolved?
If so can you explain how it was resolved so others may be able to fix it if they have the same issue.

Yes. still having the problem.

In addition, after the helpful driver update, the Windows Experience Index Score fell.

I remember there was some problem (dont remember what now) that some of the drivers drivermax suggested I update.

Had to resort to system restore in an effort to get the experience index back up. In the process got two crashes while the restore was on, leading to all previous restore points puffing and a huge bunch of errors. 20 breakthless minutes later, finally got windows to restart. Getting many more errors now post that particular serial crash.

after this, kinda reached the conclusion that the cure may just be worse than the disease.

thanks for trying- but kinda accepted that torrents and my laptop dont mix and that fixing this may just toast my laptop.

Since you mentioned this then the issue may be a hidden infection causing all this. Restoring back did nothing but remove the drivers you updated but would not have gotten rid of the infection.

I suspect that you have some malware on your computer causing issues that we are not able to solve through means we can use here in the Tech Forums. I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found HERE. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
