Hello All I have a Toshiba Laptop # L755-S5151 it is about 4 months old and I love it.
My problem is somehow the mouse pointer has changed, it has that little blue circle (working in background) on.
I have tried Control Panel > Mouse Properties > Pointers > Customize and followed instructions but I can't seem to change
it to anything else. I click on Normal Select then Apply and ok but no changes???
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Mike

Firstly, go to Control Panel > Mouse Properties > Pointers and make sure your "normal select" pointer is configured correctly to use the pointer which you want??

I have set mine for you to the same see my screenshot

[attachment=57363:Untitled.jpg]

now see my next screenshot where I have set it back again

[attachment=57364:Untitled.jpg]

So you go to Control Panel , Mouse and on the pointers tab you look what is configured for normal select, if it is the blue circle shown in my first screenshot, you double click on that entry to open and then you select the normal pointer, then that entry will change to show the normal pointer , you then click apply and OK

If this is NOT the problem, then boot to Safe Mode on F8 and see if the normal mouse cursor is evident there.
If it is configured for normal pointer in Control Panel., it clould be that some process is not completing, post back and I will further advise.

Followed your instructions and still the same (mouse pointer with working in background) blue circle going.
The same in the safe mode Sure is strange. It appears as all the functions in the Mouse Functions > properties are
working but not executing the commands.
Thanks Mike

When you open the Mouse window in Control Panel what is shown please for the Normal Select - see my screenshots

Top screenshot shows circle as I set it like that to show you and second shows pointer

Do please note that you double click on normal select - to open the options.

Have you recently installed new software or indeed hardware,

Disconnect any printer, external drive, etc and try again.

Ok start a run command and type "msconfig" and hit enter. Go the the tab "startup" and click disable all.

Now reboot your computer, does the spinning blue pointer still appear?

If so, try going into msconfig again but instead click on "services" and disable any services other than "Microsoft"

Restart the machine, let me know the results

Would you respond please to my post 6, before proceeding any further

Try please, as I said, disconnecting any external hardware, especially any printer if you have one connected

My colleague mbond65 refers to what is generally known as a clean boot.

Please wait before trying this as I will provide you with extra guidance on the issue.
Thank you

It looks just like your second screenshot with the Normal select highlighted in blue and the box directly above it (right hand side)
has the Normal mouse pointer in it.

Do please note that you double click on normal select - to open the options. < Do I want to open options??

I have not downloaded any software nor added any hardware and it is not hooked up to any external devices except the power cord.

Thanks for helping but don't give up yet.

About week to 10 days ago.
Thought I could figure this out on my own, tried the help and it guided me through still nothing.
I have tried to change it to different types like big, pencil, cursor but I can't get it to change to anything.
It's like it's stuck on that option?

I have tried to change it to different types like big, pencil, cursor but I can't get it to change to anything.

I was just going to suggest that - to ensure that it will accept a change.

Please would you be kind enough to check

Go back to Control Panel Mouse and click the pointers tab.

Then on the line for the Busy, double click to open.
Rather than changing the normal

Scroll down the list until you find the busy and the hour glass.

Then click that, the entry will appear in the top box -below the choice - file name

Then click open.

When you have done that the busy indication will change in the original pointers option to the hour glass

Now click apply and Ok

exit out and restart and see if the blue circle has changed to the hour glass.

Which anti- virus do you use please.

I have posted separately so you do not miss it.

Click the processes tab.
Then click on Show processes from all users.
Then click once please on the column heading CPU., that will put the usuage at the top of the column
Now please look at the processes that are using CPU resources and are indicated as changing.
One will be system idle process
One will be the taskmanager shown as taskmgr.exe

What else please is also using CPU resources.

Please do not make any changes, simply record what is shown as other than 0 and exit out.

2. Would you please go Start (Windows button) Programs, accessories, system tools, system restore, when the window opens, click next.
Is a restore point shown please.
Click show other restore points.
Are they shown please.

Yes that changed it to the hour glass But between clicking Apply and OK a box came up and said

"The Cursor Scheme name you selected is already in use. Do you want to replace the original scheme?"
I clicked YES and then OK.

I am currently using Avast Free and have it on my desktop (dell used it for years) and laptop with no issues.

Ok so at least me know now that the pointer options will change, would you please proceed with the next post I made post 13
and please note that as I said, I have signed off, so that you are not left waiting for a reply.

I will come back to you, when I resume.

Would you also send me this please.

PLEASE NOTE - may I ask that you do not make any changes, recommended.

It is of course your computer, but if you make changes after sending me the results, it makes my job harder.
2. Run this please and send me the results

Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others).

Go to: http://www.pCPitstop.com

Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive

In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!" OR YOU CAN RUN THE TEST ANON. without signing up. - you will see that at the end of that screen. The results will still be saved long enough for me to look at them.

If you do wish to sign up - for some reason

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)

You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed. - Please do not follow any procedures, until I have seen it for the reason outlined above

Please post the URL internet address, from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

While PCPitstop does offer a variety of Paid Products, the PCPitstop OverDrive testing is FREE. Please ignore the references to Paid Products. We prefer to provide manual solution instructions that you can apply directly to your machine.

PLEASE DO NOT RUN ANY other tests on offer
