intermittant is key
1. this is caused by bad bios settings
2. damaged hard disk is damaged.
3. the 0 Sector has an incorrect or bad Master Boot Record (MBR).
we can usually rule out 1, since it is intermittent. It could be a motherboard going bad, but let's hope not. Still drop into bios (f1, f2 or del) at boot up and see if you have a function to redetect the drive (change the setting from automatic, to manual, then back, or hit enter on the drive to redetect)
for two, start > run
cmd
enter
type
chkdsk /r
at the command prompt, say yes to reboot and reboot--will take a while
for three, reboot into the recovery console and type
fixmbr
