Hi all, this forum was of tremendous help the last time I contracted a virus. I hope that this issue can be resolved also :)

I got home today and turned on my computer. When the desktop was loading, I received this Avast warning about a program trying to access the file "nsF2E.tmp". I Denied the action. But it scared the [bleep] out of me. I did a Google search and couldn't find anything about this file. Now I'm wondering if I have some sort of an infection. I have attached a screenshot of the Avast warning.

Shortly after, I restarted my computer and this time the Avast warning message didn't show up. Everything seems to be working fine. Despite this, I'm still a little worried. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit.

Here is my OTL log:

Hi,

Do you updated any program or driver recently?

# Step 1 #

Posted Image Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be
    prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2
prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

# Step 2 #

Download aswMBR.exe ( 4.8mb ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the "Scan" button to start scan

Posted Image

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Hi Whitehat, thanks for helping me.

Did I update any drivers or programs?

I'm not sure exactly but I think before this happened, I updated my PokerStars client, uTorrent, downloaded and installed Steam(the gaming platform), and maybe updated Adobe Flash and/or Java. Also the auto updates from Windows.

The Malwarebytes scan said it found 0 infections:

Here is the log:

Hi,

How is your computer?

Disable your antivirus software
  • Acess the Eset Online Scanner website using Internet Explorer navigator.
    http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
  • Do the scan according the image:

    Posted Image
  • At the end, check the box "Delete Quarantined files" and click in [FINISH]
  • It will be generated a log in C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\Log.txt
PS: If you didn't find the log.txt file in \EsetOnlineScanner\, look on \Program Files\Eset\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Post that log.

Nothing to worry about. This files are False positives from Eset Online Scanner

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove OTL:

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Thanks for all the help Whitehat!

I have a question though, you said those files are false positives. But they were quarantined and deleted, so does that mean I deleted files that are essential?
