Hi

I have an ASUS laptop that goes to a black screen shortly after booting up. If I press Fn + F8 it will come back for a few seconds and then revert back to the black screen. I can see the icons if I shine a torch onto the screen. I have tried taking the battery out and holding the power key down for 2 minutes and then replacing the battery again. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Cindy

What you describe may suggest that the backlight or inverter is bad and will need replacing.
An inverter is less expensive and easier to replace than a backlight and would normally be replaced first for these two reasons, please tell us what particular model notebook the ASUS is please so we can do some research.

If you can try hooking the notebook up to an external screen by way of the VGA port and let us know if the display is good, you may have to toggle between screens by pressing the Fn and one of the F1 to F12 keys (possibly F4 or F5) or it may be a single function key that has a picture of a screen on it.
