Hi, I am so glad I discovered this site. I think you guys are great.

Let me explain my situation. I have Freedom Antivirus and Sevice Pack 2. A couple of days ago I installed an Active X thing, not knowing what it was. Aurora pop-ups started to appear and a Free phone icon too. Getting nervous, I made a search and deleted Aurora as well as the Free phone program.

I discovered your site, ran Ad-aware and Ewido (wich did not get any results for the slowiness of the computer, nor detected Aurora or Nail) , but the NAIL.exe file is still in my computer and I don't know what to do with it.

I don't have any pop-ups, but my computer acts strangely (slowliness, things disappearing).

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mia Wallace

Download the RKFiles.zip from here:
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
1. Reboot into safe mode
2. Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder
* Locate and double-click the RKFILES.BAT to run this tool.
* Sit back and wait untill its finished.
* When it is finally finished a text file will open.
* Save the contents of that text file.
Note: It should save by default to C:\Log.txt
3. Reboot back to Normal Mode.
4. Post the log

This is my log. It is really short and I wonder if it is because I didn't save the rkfiles on my hard disk.

Thanks, Mia Wallace

You can do a find files for param32.dll , systr.dll or popup_bl.dll and guninst.exe
Most likely they will be in your C:\WINDOWS\System32\ folder

Let me know which ones are found where.

Let's first try and disable some unnecessary stuff.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KBD] C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Lancement rapide d'Adobe Reader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Reboot and let me know if that is a significant difference.

Well, I think my computer was faster today. But what upsets me is that the Nail.exe file is still in my computer.

Well, isn't some kind of a virus or trojan or something that could be harmful to my computer?

Yes. It would be, but I don't see any evidence of it being active and that would show up in your logs if it was.

Could it "wake up"? Should I delete it?

If you can delete it, then I would. That reduces the chance of someone "waking it up"

Be carefull not to doubleclick it though.
