Hello,

I am getting BSOD, with tcpip.sys.

My system and other info is below.

1. My comptuer: Dell desktop XPS8300.
2. Info from Bluescreenview (below)
3. Current antivirus packages (McAfee antivirus, and PC Tools Spyware Doctor, antispyware only)
4. I ran sc /scan now (no errors)
5. Ran chkdsk /r (no errors)
6. MSFT updates that happened a few days before this issue started:
* Bing toolbar, MSFT silverlight, windows live essentials installed (unable to uninstall)
* Many updates happened several days before this problem started:

* Security update KB2647516

I am thinking that McAfee is conflicting with Browser Defender 3.0 (Version: 3.0.0.312) and Spyware Doctor 8.0 (Version: 8.0) Please uninstall these programs and see if you get anymore crashes there is more work to be done on your machine but I would like you to take these steps first.

Wow - 24 hours with no BSOD crash!

What do you think is the next step? Clean up then reinstall McAfee?

You can if you want. See if reinstalling McAfee triggers the blue screens first.

Please download Ccleaner. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Open Ccleaner then hit Tools>Startup>Then disable All startup items Except your AV and anything to do with wireles if you connect wirelessly.




Download Autoruns and Autorunsc unzip Autoruns to your desktop run it.See any entries that read file not found when you see them right click and select delete do this only for the entries that read file not found also uncheck any scheduled task that are set to run on your machine,close the program.

Lets change your dns setting to a faster more secure connection.

Now Please do the followiing. Open Elevated Command Prompt
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.



At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

Now uncheck 1pv6 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852



Hit start button at lower left hand corner of the screen.Then in the run box type services.msc. Find the service listed below,one at a time. left click it once you should have the option to either stop the service or restart it , stop the service then right click selected service select properties then change the startup type to manual then left click apply and move on to the next service.If the service is stopped and the startup type is manual then do nothing.

Ok! I followed all the steps you listed.

I have no attachment to McAfee. What would you recommend? Is McAfee not good? What do you think about PC Tools spyware doctor?

PC Tools Spyware Doctor is known for slowing down your system. If you have no attachment towards McAfee, then uninstall it and go for either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. Or even Kaspersky if you prefer a paid product.

Whatever you choose, though, make sure you only install one of them. More than one security software running on your system at the same time could easily lead to a significant decline in system performance and might even render the system even more vulnerable to malware infection.

As for spyware protection, just install MalwareBytes' (if you don't have it yet) to use for supplementary scan when you suspect malware.

I would Agree with Amlak on everything except Microsoft Security Essentials (which is garbage software). Here is the link to Avast free.

McAfee is a known problem source along wit Norton also both of which cause your machine to slow down as they chew a lot of resources.On my machines I use Avast Free and Malwarebytes Pro which play very well together,and for a one time fee of around 30 dollars you get malwarebytes pro for life. Basically, the free version is just a removal tool. It will remove malware once it is on your system. The paid version has real time protection. This means that it will block malware before it ever reaches your system. You also receive automatic updates with the paid version, as well as the option to schedule scans. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Just out of curiosity is your machine performing any better since following the steps?

You can do a couple more things if you wish as a part of basic maintinence.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.Copy and paste the below into the command prompt window hitting ENTER After The Sfc /scannow Command.
SFC /SCANNOW
IF SFC /Scannow finds any issues with your machine then please visit the windows update site.

Run CHKDSK /R In a command prompt window. Hit the start button then type cmd (Run As Admin)in the run box when the command prompt opens type or copy and paste the following. CHKDSK /R Reply Y when asked if you want this to happen on the next boot.Now Type Exit and Reboot your machine.

Also wont hurt to defrag that machine of yours.

Very nice, yes my computer definitely runs faster!

It's totally cool that you did a "tune up" as well as fixing my BSOD.

I'm downloading those software packages, and will perform similar procedure on my other computers.

You folks are a credit to this site & help forums in general.

I spent a ton of time with Dell support (with no fix/help) trying to get done what you did in this email thread.
