Hey all,

Recently my router stopped giving raw logs of the websites being accessed and switched to logs like this:

[LAN access from remote] from

or UPNP SET EVENT: etc.. Netgear wndr3400.. a common issue going on, if it's even an issue. I can't seem to understand what people mean by UPNP is enabled and this is what's causing it.

So basically my questions are:

Why is UPNP on? If there is a reason, it wasn't turned on manually.

What is UPNP? (Other than its acronym)

Will it do any harm if I switch it off? (however I do that)

Thanks

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a set of networking protocols that permits networked devices, such as personal computers, printers, Internet gateways, Wi-Fi access points and mobile devices to seamlessly discover each other's presence on the network and establish functional network services for data sharing, communications, and entertainment. UPnP is intended primarily for residential networks without enterprise class devices.

Or in plain english: Allows a computer to talk to and learn about other devices automatically on a network.

This is part of Windows and has been since XP. It is on by default. It isn't essential but it may make life easier in the future to add other devices later.
