As per the aggressive mode, do you want me to use command prompts to change the registry settings?

Returning to the aggressive mode, and you asking if I was wishing you to change the registry entries, I thought the FIXIT offerred the default mode and the aggressive mode to automatically carry out what is step 4 of the manual mode, am I wrong on this. - please

Running FixIt only allow 2 choices, detect problems & apply fixes or detect problems & let me select the fixes to apply. I ran the first one that said it fixed the windows update components. But when I tried to download & install Microsoft updates, it never worked.

On that same link you sent me, it gives the option to "Let me fix it myself" which is a link to Microsoft's Knowledge Base on how to manually change the settings. That is what I thought you meant when you mentioned the aggressive method.

Well Microsoft have I think, listed it incorrectly then in the Tech article

Note This Fix it Solution has two modes: Default and Aggressive. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode and determine whether it resolves your problem with Windows Update before you run it in Aggressive mode.

Try this one and send the other requested info please

Ran both the default and aggressive scans, but without any success with installing the updates.

Thanks for your persistence with this problem. I used another site before you responded to my request, and you have far surpassed what they suggested I do to fix this issue. I just hope you can solve this problem.

See you when you return.

On both services click dependencies and start those services please.

All of these should respond with a message the service has been successfully started

You have UAC turned off - do you know if you did this please.
See this

Should I Disable UAC When I Install My Applications & Turn It On Afterward ?
The biggest annoyance level for users is when you install Windows 7 and all your daily applications. At this time you can receive lots of UAC prompts and you might be tempted to disable it temporarily, while you install all your applications and enable it back when done. In some scenarios this can be a bad idea. Certain applications, which make lots of system changes can fail to work once you turn on UAC after their installation and they will work if you install them with UAC turned on. The failures happen because, when UAC is turned off, the virtualization techniques used by UAC for all applications are inactive. This causes certain user settings and files to be installed to a different place and no longer work when UAC is turned back on. To avoid these problems, it is better to have UAC turned on at all times.

and please turn it on to default level, that is Control panel User Accounts - change UAC settings

PLEASE DO ALL of these logged on to your usual admin account

Then try again please.

Go Programs, accessories, system tools system restore and establish a restore point

Then at a advanced command prompt do this please
Rename the Windows Update temporary SoftwareDistribution folder. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open an administrative Command Prompt window.
  • Run the following commands, and press Enter after each command:
    • Net stop wuauserv
    • cd %systemroot%
    • Ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • Net start wuauserv
  • then try the updates again please.
