Running FixIt only allow 2 choices, detect problems & apply fixes or detect problems & let me select the fixes to apply. I ran the first one that said it fixed the windows update components. But when I tried to download & install Microsoft updates, it never worked.

On that same link you sent me, it gives the option to "Let me fix it myself" which is a link to Microsoft's Knowledge Base on how to manually change the settings. That is what I thought you meant when you mentioned the aggressive method.

Well Microsoft have I think, listed it incorrectly then in the Tech article

Ran both the default and aggressive scans, but without any success with installing the updates.

Thanks for your persistence with this problem. I used another site before you responded to my request, and you have far surpassed what they suggested I do to fix this issue. I just hope you can solve this problem.

Please go start (windows button) in search type
cmd
right click on that when it appears above and click run as admin

at cmd prompt type
net user administrator /active:yes

it should report success
type
exit
reboot

log onto system admin account, unless you set it password is blank
This is not your user account with admin rights
Now try an update please

On both services click dependencies and start those services please.

All of these should respond with a message the service has been successfully started

Followed your advice and applied all suggestions but still my computer doesn't want to install updates.

Go Programs, accessories, system tools system restore and establish a restore point

Then at a advanced command prompt do this please
Rename the Windows Update temporary SoftwareDistribution folder. To do this, follow these steps:

• Open an administrative Command Prompt window.
• Run the following commands, and press Enter after each command:
  • Net stop wuauserv
  • cd %systemroot%
  • Ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  • Net start wuauserv
• then try the updates again please.
