Please stop Kaspersky scan. I saw log and I don't think there is any leftovers now. If you don't have any problems I'll clean your system from my mess :)

Your logs and system are clean now. I'm glad we fix up your computer. We need to clean up your PC from programs we used.

Step 1

Please start OTL one more time and click CleanUp button. OTL will restart your system at the end. Remove all other application we used to clean your PC.

General recommendations

Here are some recommendations you should follow to minimize infection risk in the future:

1. Enable Windows Update
  • Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER.
  • Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select one of the following options. We recommend that you select the Automatic (recommended) Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them option.
  • Click OK button

2. Delete Temp files

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Open the file and close any other windows.
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

3. Make Backups of Important Files

Please read this article Home Computer Data Backup.

4. Regularly update your software

To eliminate design flaws and security vulnerabilities, all software needs to be updated to the latest version or the vendor’s patch installed.

You should download Update Checker from here. The program will automaticly check for newer version of software installed on your system.

Hi maliprog

I have clicked on the OTL icon which highlights as Screen Saver? And it opens with an “Open File Security Warning” with just two buttons, Run and Cancel, if I click run a Notepad box is produced with a logfile, the Notepad File, Edit, Format, View, buttons are there but no “Clean-up button”

The Auto Update is enabled but the sysdm.cpl only produced a system properties box, so on my system Win7 I just wrote Auto Update and the correct page was produced, and the Auto was selected.

Item2 > TFC? Not sure what that is

It does look like we have got rid of the winpk_rtl filter is missing, and the Host Process+ Internet Control Panel, warnings etc but the PC is still very slow to shut down.

And as for Backups, sorry I am still learning and I have never quite cracked it, and important stuff like photos I don't want to lose I keep on a mem stick.

I have read articles and instructions, and I have made Backup disks, and Windows7 makes it's own backup files, but the problem is I can never open them when I want to retrieve any information, I get things like > Windows needs to know what program created the file <
Regards Robert.

Hi again maliprog

I was having lots of problems, and that is why I was searching with HJT to see if I could spot anything unfamiliar, that's why I was asking what those files were.
Every time I booted my PC I got a message, either the winpk filter was missing, a problem which I also had a year ago, I think it is something to do with the Firewall, mine is Comodo, which I uninstalled and then ran the CCleaner and a Malware Bytes scan, after that I reinstalled Comodo but that did not work, I solved the problem on that occasion by installing a new winpk _rtl filter driver.

When the problem returned a few months ago the system would not let me install a new winpk filter as I got the message that the filter driver is already installed.

Other warnings were Internet Control Panel had stopped working, Windows Common DLL has stopped working, or Userinit Logon Application has stopped working and also the Desktop ini file.

I am also troubled with “Internet Explorer cannot display the web page” which is most annoying!!!

Although it's early days yet since we ran the clean-up I haven't seen those warnings come back, but I have seen another which came and went very quickly.

I am however still troubled with the Internet Explorer cannot display the web-page, which for example still comes on when I have filled in a request form etc, on a web site and pressed send for further information, or if I have pressed a Blue Link to another page.

To solve this problem I have made a new internet connection, and reinstalled the D-Link wireless modem, unfortunately that has not worked.

My thanks for your help Regards Robert.

This looks like system problem. Let's see...

Step 1

  • Go to Start -> My Computer
  • Right click on C: disk and clik on Properties
  • Click on tab Tools and click on Check now... button
  • Check Automatically fix system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
  • Click Start button
  • Confirm schedule disk check next time computer starts with Yes button
  • Restart your system and wait while system checks your disk for errors

Step 2

We are going to run System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
In search box type cmd
Right click on it and select Run as administrator
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Let me know results.

Hi maliprog, thanks for your continued patience,

Although the error messages seem to have gone I am still having trouble with Inernet Explorer cannot view the webpage.
And I have run the requested checks and on the first one it returned > Vol 1 is local disk, clean.
And on the second scan the result was “ Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations” regards Robert.

Just to narrow the problem...

Do you get this error only in Internet Explorer or you also have them in Firefox.

Next...

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Hi maliprog
Please find below the results of the scan by ToolBox
For your information I only get the "Internet Explorer cannot view the web page" warning message in IE, as I do not have Fire Fox
And I did not find any "Reset FF Proxy Settings option" ?
Regards Robert.

Do you have another PC connected to this router? Does it have the same problem in IE?

Please click on Start button
Click All programs then Accessories
Select System tools then click on Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

Try to browse Internet now and see if you get any errors.

Hi maliprog
There is no other PC using this router.

I did disable the add-ons, and I ran the PC in the afternoon using the internet as normal and I only got the IE message once, I went back to the page a few minuts later and it opened ok, so I think that was probably a page glitch rather than my PC
I disabled the Add-Ons following your instructions although I think I might have got the same result by clicking on > Tools,Options, Manage Add-Ons, although three programs did stay enabled which were Microsoft Silverlight, Shockwave Flash, and Java.
I have often wondered if I actually need these add-ons? The problem is once they are in there I cannot find a way of uninstalling them without loosing the parent program.
Anyway the PC does seem to be running better now, but it still takes a few minutes to close down.
Regards Robert.

Glad that your PC is better now and that your internet is OK. Let's try these two steps to speed system a little bit more.

Step 1

Startuplite is a tool to help you stop some programs not needed when you start your computer from loading. They will begin automatically only when needed.

Run the tool and it will disable all unnecessary sturtup entries.
Click on Continue button to save changes.

Step 2

Download and run Puran Disc Defragmenter
Click on Boot Time Defrag button and choose Restart-Defrag-Restart

Hi maliprog, My thanks for all your help, I do feel that now we are winning.

I have run the to programs you have recommended, although I do usually have a free program called Win-patrol installed where start-up prog's can also be regulated, and I also sometimes delay or stop progs from starting by the msconfig rout, once I know what they are and what they do, which for silver surfers like myself the main point is knowing what you can safely stop :-)

In the last step after stopping the Add-Ons, Silverlight, Java and Shockwave Flash were all left running, so presumably they were needed by the system, perhaps maybe I could uninstall the others, for example the J Zip plugin without detriment the J Zip program which I need, if I could find a way to get rid of the unwanted Add-Ons as they do not seem to delete from the “Manage Add-Ons box”

I also have Smart Defrag2 running which I have had for some years, are you aware of it? and will it run alongside Puran? Or should remove the Smart Defrag and stay with Puran.

I do have one last thing which I do not understand or how to correct, as we seem to have stopped the “Internet Explorer cannot view the web-page” message, but there is another anomaly with links which still happens, and it happened again yesterday, when I was on a site Home-Page and I clicked on a link to contact the Administrator, in these cases I would expect an email or site contact form to open up, but my Google Chrome search page opens up instead, with the two button “Search and I feel lucky”

Just disable them. That should be fine. They are not bad... you just don't need them :)

This is just note to you. It doesn't really give you link to administrators mail or contact. If you have anyone (like office administrator) then you can contact him. But that's it. If this is home PC that (I guess) you are that administrator :).

Glad I could help. Goodbye and stay safe
