Do you have the xp Disk??? One thing that I want you to try is to boot into safemode with command prompt, then let me know if you are able to do so. See the link below. But for now here is a link explaining how to boot into safemode with command prompt.

Try a checkdisk from safe mode with command prompt if possible.
I would first like for you to run a CheckDisk from command prompt. When the command prompt opens type or copy and paste the following. CHKDSK /R Reply Y when asked if you want this to happen on the next boot. Now Type Exit and Reboot your machine.

Then try a system restore if possible.

http://windows.micro...-command-prompt

Here are some options if you have the xp disk or the recovery console installed.
http://www.windowsne...s/wxprcons.html

Try the system restore from the recovery console along with checkdisk

This computer I now have is a HP Compaq DC5750 with XP Pro SP3.But there are already quiet a few programs already installed on it that Im sure are obsolete. Is there anyway you can tell me what programs I should keep & which I should uninstall? Or should I start a new topic with this request? Please & thank you!

ok...........whew........well the decrapifier (love that name!)only listed less than half of the things you told me to check.I ran it a 2nd time to make sure what I checked was removed too.
Then I ran Microsoft security tool & installed avast. Then I set the hosts back to default.

Next i couldnt locate PS/2 keyboard ect. in the device manager anywhere. However there is a yellow question mark next to Other Devices and under that a yellow exclaimation point next to SM Bus Controller.

Thats where I stopped to update you before running chkdsk only because I know thats a big step & see if I need to make any other changes before running chkdsk.

(((most likely i can get back to you immediately 2day)))

Then I ran Microsoft security tool & installed avast. Then I set the hosts back to default.

Next i couldnt locate PS/2 keyboard ect. in the device manager anywhere. However there is a yellow question mark next to Other Devices and under that a yellow exclaimation point next to SM Bus Controller.

Thats where I stopped to update you before running chkdsk only because I know thats a big step & see if I need to make any other changes before running chkdsk.

(((most likely i can get back to you immediately 2day)))

As per Rockmilk You need to get the chipset driver. That should take care of the SMbus error you have.
The first order of business is to get your chipset driver installed because it is missing. Please go here and install your chipset driver.

Ok so do you have the Chipset driver installed now?? Please run the program below and post the log it creates in your next reply.
http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html
Also you can go ahead and run Checkdisk this just checks your disk for errors no need to have that driver installed to run this command. But installing the driver should be the first order of business.
