I know nothing about ipods and I have to ask this question. Could someone please educate me a bit on ipods and how the accounts work?

My daughter has an ipod that is on the same account as her fathers. She says that she is receiving the same apps as her father (some are dating sites for adults). He says there is no way she can be receiving the same apps because he has a block on her ipod.

Is it possible for her to be receiving the same apps as he is even when he says there is a block enforced?

I truly do not understand.

I'm just entering this world myself. So, a quick question. Are we talking iPod or iPad? Two very different devices. To my knowledge (which is limited at this point), iPod is a music, movie, pod cast and most importantly, non-app device. iPad has apps. Next, they both can be synched to the same account and share "stuff". I don't believe that her father can block either device, but I could be wrong on that.

Although I'm still learning, I'm happy to share what I've learned of the Apple world.

It is an iPod touch. Not an iPad.

I should have done a little Googling myself. Apparently, the Touch has apps. So, from that perspective I know that apps can be shared because I'm doing it.

Here's one for you and everyone else that's reading this. I bought an iPad that was a store return. I'm noodling around just learning how to use it when all of a sudden the chat app comes to life and I'm a 3rd party to a conversation. Long story short, the Geek Squad strikes again. They didn't clear the device and I had access to the previous owners...well...pretty much everything. I could have bought the world. Together we went to the store and talked to everyone we could. Corporate got involved, but in the long run I'll bet nothing changed.

Can't find anything about setting restrictions on 1 iPod that shares accts with more than one iPod.

1 iPod is used by an adult and the other by a very precocious tweenager. Well. One thing for sure, she isn't getting the iPod back till I know for sure his apps aren't showing up on her iPod. Till then. I have a new toy! Yippee!

Not long ago a friend of mine took her laptop to the Geek Squad and was told the HD needed to be replaced. After paying $70 and refusing to spend more she took it home. She was telling me about this and I asked if I could look at it. I checked the HD (which was fine,no bad sectors) backed up everything for her, nuked the drive, reinstalled with recovery disks and it has been running great since! She took it back to show them and demanded her money back due to false diagnosis.

They told her, “We could have made the (PC) work by reinstalling the operating system too but it would have cost you more then the $70 we charged you!"

I have never heard of a "block" that will prevent apps from being pushed to an iDevice, especially when two people share one Apple account.

Geek Squad has never been good anyway.

I was working with my iPad last night and one can, via the Setting, General, Restrictions...set a passcode. Without know that passcode, the user of the device would be unable to install an app. This might work for Donna's needs, but then again, it might be too restrictive. But, at least it's a start.

Here's another question that just came to mind.

Not long ago she had asked her father if he could give me the passcode so she could connect to the internet to download some music. He gave me the passcode (which never worked and I assume he didn't give the correct code on purpose).

Anyway. My question is, if the iPod was passcoded to prevent internet access how could these apps that he was downloading show up on hers? Are they networked somehow where you don't need to be connected???

I'm totally confused. Doesn't really matter because he has the iPod now. But I'd like to know how this happened if she could not connect to the internet.

Hello DonnaB,

If someone is downloading apps to a different device on the same iTunes account, iTunes may be set up to send them to all devices on the account.

It's a thought to consider.

Maybe you need to take "control" of the iPOD when it comes back, by resetting it to factory defaults and set passcodes that you know for sure are in fact the correct passcodes.

You can Google reset iPod to factory defaults.

**I'll let you know most kids know how to do this too, it only takes that one kid at school to spread the news, "Hey I reset my ipod now I can connect to the Internet" and off they go even if they know there going to loose all there data by doing it. But they still would need the router passcode in most instances to connect too!
