I am not a computer novice... however, I cannot get rid of Party Poker and have NO idea how it got on my comp. I use Zonealarm free (best firewall ever), use Grisoft's AVG Anti-Virus Free 7.0, and I run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot on a regular basis. What's up?

Here is my hijack this log.... help!

bcmusic,

Welcome to the GTG Forums, I will be reviewing your HJT log.
Please read "ALL" of the instructions before proceeding:
You may want to print out these instructions for a reference.

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Please download WinHelp2002's DelDomains by right-clicking on the following link, and choosing "Save Target As":
http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf
  • Save the file to the desktop.
  • Then go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install.
  • You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal.
Enable show hidden files and folders:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

O2 - BHO: WinStat - {F007E221-018D-4baf-924A-B0E9092F3853} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat11.dll

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com

O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw2.cab

Close all open windows except HJT, then click the Fix Checked button.

Using Windows Explorer find and remove the following folders/files if present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat11.dll <-- File

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
Click OK
Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
When asked to reboot system select No
Close CleanUp

Reboot your system:

Please run at least one of these online scans, allow it to delete anything it finds:
You may have to select the auto-fix/clean option prior to scanning, it should be a selection box on the screen. If you are a dial-up user just do one, this can take some time.
If you are a broadband user, I would suggest at least 2 of the 3. TrendMicro HouseCall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Please make a note of anything that wasn't or couldn't be fixed.
Reboot your machine when finished.

Post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Thanks,
rstones12

Hi and thank you for your help!

TrendMicro found nothing when it ran, however... my Zonealarm said wmplayer.exe was trying to access the net. It also said "program changed since it was last run"... of course I denied access.

I noticed Media Player opened the past few times I rebooted. Odd being as I never use it. I know that viruses attack that executable file. Ugh.

Ok, running Panda now..... Panda found two things so far. Now three. Disinfected 1. Odd that TrendMicro found nothing.

Ok... here's my HJT log (and then the Panda log)

bcmusic,
Well things are getting better. We need to do a few things..

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here along with a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Please try not to reboot until I can look at the Findit log.......

Thanks,

bcmusic,
Looks good, how are things running??

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera is OK as well.
Be sure to also keep up with Windows and IE updates.

Windows security and critical updates.
http://v4.windowsupd.../en/default.asp

Internet Explorer security and critical updates.
http://www.microsoft.../ie/default.asp

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thanks,

runnin good so far... but how long?

i use adaware and spybot regularly.... they always pick up something (usually tracking cookies nothing more)... spyware blaster.. i'm keepin' this thing minimized.... all the time. apparently it actually DOES block spyware/malware... and my firewall does not...? i was hoping the firewall would block... but, two days of [bleep] told me otherwise. :tazz:

looks alright though, things.... so.... hopefully....

i have no idea where i went to get infected. i stay on cool sites (nothing pop-up ad-ish)... i have NO idea how this happened. i'm the only one who uses my comp too. odd.

i hope it stays clean! thanks to all of ya! ;) you guys rule.
