Hi, Not sure whether to post here or on web browsers forum, so apologies if in the wrong place.

I am running Windows 7 on my laptop and having real problems with IE. It's really slow opening some web pages and I often get the page saying that Internet Explorer in unable to connect. When I click back and try again, it's fine. It's as if it needs two attempts every time.

I put Firefox on and it was much better with no speed or opening problems at all, but now, when I hover the cursor over the Firefox logo in the bar at the bottom of the screen, I can't view the windows I've opened any more. I have uninstalled it and installed again but still the same.

Sorry, have realised that there are probably 2 problems here, but would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks so much,
Ness.

Then open ccleaner hit the tools button then startup second one down below uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text file.Save it to your desktop and post the startup.txt here in your next reply.

Hit the start button in lower left hand corner. Then in the run box type msconfig, then hit the services tab then put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services? Please post back to us in a vertical list.

Please download MINITOOLBOX When the box opens click save file, save it to the desktop and run it.

Hi,

Think I've done everything, and am attaching results. Avast doesn't seem to allow me to run the security check though.
Thanks so much for helping.

You may want to uninstall Rapport but you will need to do this in safe-mode. (I suggest that you uninstall it)

Next open the file paths listed below, and if there is a folder that opens then delete it,and or the contents of the folder. To open the file paths simply hit start then copy and paste the contents of the code box one at a time into the start search box.

C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2012\avgdiagex.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2012\avgmfapx.exe

Also if there is anything in the above folders re-run the AVG removal tool, even after deleting the contents.

Now hit the start button and then type MsConfig then under the services tab of MsConfig put a checkmark next to hide microsoft services then uncheck the services listed below. There is no need for these and they waste system resources.

Google Update Service (gupdate)

Google Update Service (gupdatem)

Google Updater Service

Edit: Also you will want to install Service Pack 1 for you machine.
You will want the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe 903.2 MB File from the link below.

Hi,

Laptop certainly seems livlier! Have run the security check as below.
Will install the service pack later today.

I still occasionally get the message 'the web page is not responding due to a long running script' when loading pages, but to be fair, this seems to happen only at certain times, maybe it's my broadband not being particularly great.

Thanks so much for all your help and very clear instructions - very much appreciated.

Regards,
Ness

You can replace Adobe reader with Foxit.
http://www.foxitsoft...ure_PDF_Reader/

Edit: See link below watch out when installing foxit or any program these days they come bundled with other things toolbars etc.
http://www.dedoimedo...er-toolbar.html

Also try and plug your laptop directly into the modem and see if you get any lag there,if you do not get any lag then reset your modem back to factory settings.
http://www.ehow.com/...t-settings.html

Let us know how the machine responds after installing the service pack.

Hi,

Have run the toolbox. Have not done the modem task yet, but Firefox is running well - much better. IE is still a bit hit and miss, I get the message, 'the web page is not responding', but I can live with Firefox.

Thank you again for your help,
Ness.
