So this screenshots are taken before you've changed anything? If yes then you're already running your system in clean boot mode.

In this case you don't have to do anything with msconfig.

What you have to do is release at least 15% of free space on you system partition.

You will have to forgive me...

At times my mind goes blank when I have a lot of things happening that distracts me.. ( I had a few things going on online I was trying to observe )

I am now Also unsure if the boxes were already ticked or unticked...
My short term memory can forget when I get distracted and I forget exactly
what I just did....

Thats why I am still trying to determine which boxes should be ticked..

Should all 4 boxes be ticked as in image 1 of the gif...or just certain ones.

I MAY have to experiment otherwise if we can still not clarify things..
unless you see this may be a problem.

IF some had been unticked.. this may cause a problem..

I was thinking if you had posted an image with what I should tick..that would
have been much easier for me to understand than trying to read the instructions.

I am sometimes a more visual person than I am at trying to read instruction in some cases..

Posted Image

Thick two Avira services in green rectangle. Other settings are perfect. Then click on OK button to apply changes. Then reboot.

I did see what you had said earlier in the email,

I understood that instruction as you indicated and I acknowledged it...

what I was trying to ask was if the other instructions that you gave were still
likely to be worth me doing....that's why I was asking if it was possible to
show an image of which of those boxs in the steps should have been ticked or unticked.

For the next 45 mins I need to be online...

I will then tick the boxes that you have shown...and restart..

Ok..

So as I understand initially ..Ideally ....under System Config utility...General tab...Selective Start Up...

I initially did think that all FOUR SQUARE BOXES under the Selective Startup have to have a TICK in them...

and select the Origional Boot . INI with a dot in the circle..

BUT IF I DO THIS...and look in the SERVICES OPTION TAB...

Every SERVICE option gets selected with a green tick in each box.

IF I UNTICK the LOAD SYSTEMS SERVICES option in GENERAL...
Then look again in SERVICES TAB....ALL THE OPTIONS SHOWN ARE UNTICKED..

THIS WILL THEN ALLOW ME TO SELECT THE TWO SERVICE OPTIONS THAT YOU DESCRIBE..
I CAN ALSO THEN SELECT THE OPTION "HIDE MICROSOFT SERVICES"

I CAN THE TICK THE AVIRA ANTI VIRUS OPTIONS THAT YOU ASKED ME TO SELECT..

UNPON DOING THIS...THE GREYED OUT "DISABLE ALL" OPTION BECAME ACTIVE..

BUT IF I SELECT THIS..THE TWO TICKS FOR AVIRA DISAPPEAR..

I ASSUME...THAT I SELECT JUST THE TWO AVIRA OPTIONS...
AND CLICK APPLY AND CLICK OK...

MAYBE I AM Wrong, but its the only way that I can see it...

It can get a bit confusing depending upon how ones looks at it..

Anyway I will try it....if you agree with what I have said..

------------------------
In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup.
Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box.
Click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box.
Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. Verify that Load System Services and Use Original BOOT.INI are checked.

I think that instructions are exact enough.

Here are official Microsoft's instructions to startup in a clean boot state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

Hi Render,

I will be honest and say that upon looking at the Microsoft support description
that we are dealing with...that I do not think that it is fully clear..
and that it could be open to misinterpretation...

I think that they should have included a screen shot of what is ticked and what is not...in the General options..

When I read it, when it says....CLICK TO CLEAR.....is this mean TICK in the square BOX......OR ..... UNTICK the BOX....to clear those options..

At the end of each sentence..it says "Check Box"...

I am from the UK so I may misunderstand what they mean by "Check"

I THINK IN THE USA..."Check" can mean TICK...but it may also mean check the box is ticked or unticked...

IF there was an image showing what they mean...it would be much easier to be sure what they mean..

I may have to see if I can find out for sure what has to be done before I go ahead.

I found this,

It is not exactly what we are trying to do,

BUT it shows screen shots....IF I can find a similar one that covers what we are doing, this will ensure that I know what I / we are doing..

This seems to ALMOST do as I thought we were trying to do..

BUT maybe the boxes are ticked differently..the last box is unticked..for LOAD START UP ITEMS..
