The Trend Micro is a trial version which expired so I went for AVGFree. Is this a capable replacement?

A bit bulky but yes

You will need to remove Trend totally

Hello again,

overall the computer is running faster. The system boots quickly and the internet times out less often. The computer is still not running at 100% though as I still encoutner some lag times when on the internet.

Sadly though, I will not have a reliable internet connection for the next week as I am on holiday so I wont be able to download any other programs until I return.
