Tech shop tested all the components. Everything was good except the two motherboards. So as I see it, the original PSU blew, taking the original MOBO with it. I then tested the original PSU with MOBO #2, and blew that one as well. I purchased MOBO #3, same model as MOBO #2, and the machine is up and running.

Lessons learned:
1) Always test the PSU first. If the PSU is bad, it can blow up other, new components.
2) Let the professionals test the PSU. Testing with a multimeter is insufficient, as I proved.

Phil, thanks for your help. You had the right answer right off the bat, with the PSU being the root cause.

Hi there HitmanInWis

Glad to hear that you are now back up and running and thanks for posting how the issue was resolved
Unfortunately there is conflicting advice scattered around the internet as how to test a PSU, the downside of these tests is that the PSU does not have the demands placed on it like it would by the video card, HDD and optical drives and the minute a failing PSU is put under load it goes bang, sometimes taking the whole rig with it.

Happy computing
