Hi,

I have been infected for quite a while now. I had already tried most things suggested and the others seem to have made no impact. Particularly frequent ads include Aurora and revenue.net (even when I'm not surfing the net!). Ad-aware couldn't remove a file called Drpmon.dll and I feel this may be part of the problem. I also recently picked up a program from derbiz.com which keeps giving me a pop-up after logging on and trying to change my home page (fixed by EMS free surfer).

First download this LSPFix unzip it to your Desktop, Don't do anything with it.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove the following please
New.Net

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New.net, Please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button. Reboot and you should be able to get back on.

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

By the way could you link me to a place where I can create a system restore point on XP (I tried following them but its different on ME).

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help and your tips on preventing infection (I now have Spyware Blaster and is actively protecting me).

If all goes well I shouldn't need to come back here .

On the Welcome page, click Create a restore point.

On the Create a Restore Point page, enter a descriptive name for your restore point, and then click Create.
