Hello all,
first of all apologies for starting a new thread for Olmarik removal. So far none of the instructions from other threads worked for me. After running a scan with ESET 6 Smart security Beta version I get a message: Win32/Olmarik.TDL4 unable to clean. Slow performance and different desktop appearance. I understand you will need logs from me. If so can you please describe steps I need to take? First of all do I need to run Widows 7 in safe mode with networking or normal mode is ok? Many thanks for you help on this subject.

Hi normal mode will suffice

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    Posted Image
  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    services.*
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs

THEN

Download aswMBR.exe ( 4.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the "Scan" button to start scan

Posted Image

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Thanks for fast reply, my friend. OTL ran without a problem, please find logs attached. However, aswMBR does not run at all. I downloaded it, copied to Desktop, but nothing happens upon doubleclicking on it. Shall I try to rename it?

Got the bad boy.. The red one is the miscreant and the green one is where it should be active

I have just revamped my destructions for this so if you cannot understand anything please let me know

I need you to download:
gparted-live-0.10.0-3.iso (115.1 MB)

Create a bootable CD, for Gparted from the ISO image.

You can use ImgBurn do this.

Now boot off of the newly created Gparted CD.

You should be here... Press ENTER

Posted Image

By default, "do not touch keymap" is highlighted.

Posted Image

Leave this setting alone and just press ENTER.

Posted Image

Choose your language and press ENTER. English is default [33]

At the mode prompt enter 0, press ENTER

You will now be taken to the main GUI screen below

Posted Image

According to your logs, the partition that you want to delete is 10 MB

Right click this partition and select delete .

Posted Image

The Partition has gone

Now select Apply

Now you should be here:

Posted Image

Select Apply after double checking that the right partition was deleted

Is "boot" next to your OS drive (100MB probably top partition)?
If "boot" is not next to your OS ( 100MB probably the top partition) drive under "Flags", right-mouse click the OS drive while in Gparted and select Manage Flags
Posted Image

In the menu that pops up, place a checkmark in boot like the picture below, then close :

Under File select Quit
Posted Image

You will see this small Popup

Choose reboot and then press OK.

Thanks, I used DVD as I do not have clean CD here, but could not burn it on the computer. Burned it on laptop, but the infected computer does not boot from CD-ROM - this one is set as first device to look for in the SETUP. It is USB or CD-ROM, but still Windows is booting. Looks like the CD-ROM is blocked, . My apologies, I should have checked earlier! Is there anything else we can do?

Thanks, I tried to do that, set CD as first booting device, but the system still wanted to boot WIndows 7. I will try to do that again in the evening /I am at work/ and will advise. I do not have WIndows CD, I bought this computer from my employer for cheap bucks, without CD. Will advise!

Lets try an older tool to see if we can fool it that way

Please download MBRCheck.exe to your Desktop. Run the application.

If no infection is found, it will produce a report on the desktop. Post that report in your next reply.

If an infection is found, you will be presented with the following dialog:

Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

Type N and press Enter. A report will be produced on the desktop. Post that report in your next reply.
