My laptop has Vista installed and now it's asking me to activate it. It is a legitimate copy, and I have the key for it. When I type my key in, it tells me that already in use and I need to buy a new one (Not buying a new one!). This has been used previously, but none of our computers are currently running this, they are all using 7.

So my main issue is not getting my laptop functional, I can just reformat it or something, I don't care much about that. What I really want is some of my files off it. I've got several chapter of my novel on there that I really don't want to rewrite! And maybe a file of pictures...

I've been searching online ways to bypass this, but their instructions are not working! I can get to the command prompt, but not in Admin mode. Is there a command to change it to admin once in?

Help!

(It's always right after you go for help, isn't it)

For other to referance, I started it up in safe mode with the command prompt, then typed "C:\\Windows\Explorer.exe" in. This brought my start bar and desktop back. From there I just plugged in my Ipod and transferred the files over to my desktop.
