Hello everyone,

I've visited this forum before and you were all very helpful with getting my computer free of spyware, so I came here first when I was having problems with my new laptop.

Got it today for school, it's an IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP as the OS. My brother has a similar laptop that's 2 years older. I'm not sure of the model name of mine, but it's very recent. Anyway, we have a Netgear MR814v2 router in my house and my brother's laptop connects to the internet fine on it. So I didn't expect to have any problems with mine. When I first started the laptop up it connected to the Netgear wireless connection right away and for about 15 minutes I was able to use the internet. However, it then cut me off for no apparent reason and even after restarting I was unable to reconnect. When I look at the available connections the netgear one still shows up, but when I click on the option to connect to it nothing happens. It was giving me a message before about 1 or more wireless networks being available, and there were 2.. one of them I didn't know. It would let me connect to that, but not the netgear one. Now I'm not getting that message anymore but still nothing happens when I try to connect to netgear. Any help would be appreciated.

did you run the network wizard or are you just letting the wireless card pick up any router?

I just tried that, I'll see if it worked but it kind of confused me.

I ran the network wizard but it didn't do anything to change the wireless connection.

Have you tried changing your router to a different channel? Maybe just interference.

I was wondering if that other network might be interfering with it, I don't know much about routers so I don't know how that works. But, do you know how I would go about changing the channel or is it different for every router?
