I have two problems that I need help with. A few days ago I was running AdAware, and it found about 10 Malware files. I told it to delete them, but then when I ran it again, they were all still there. I tried running AdAware in safe mode, and it only detected 8 of the Malware, but it still failed to delete them. So next I followed all the steps on your "Read this before posting" topic, downloaded and ran Clean Up!, Ewido Security Suite, Spybot S&D, CWShredder, and TDS-3. After doing all this, I ran AdAware again, and it only found 6 of the original 10 Malware files, so I assume the other 4 were deleted. I'm out of options now, though, and I still have 6 Malware files on my computer.

The other problem occurred while I was running Norton. It found a file called webdos.dll that it says is infected. Norton can't delete the file, however, as it says the file is in use or something like that. I also tried running Norton in safe mode, but it couldn't delete it there either, and I also tried to delete it manually, but that failed as well. I also tried Ewido Security Suite, and it has detected the file many times, but also seems unable to delete it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please ask if you need more information.

Hi there Slugo76 and welcome to Geekstogo.

I am UKBiker and will be helping you with this log. :tazz:

We can sort this out with your help, but first I need you to do a couple of things for me.

Open EWIDO, select the "Quarantine" tab. In the Quarantine field, highlight each entry and then choose the "Remove Finally" tab. Close EWIDO.

Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. DO NOT Clear out the Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

This one too if Win2K or XP.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

When you have done all this, please run Ewido again and have it fix anything it finds. Please post the new EWIDO log (see final instruction below)

Create a new system Restore pointby going to-
Start>programmes>accessories>system tools>system restore
then after creating the new point, use the option to "delete all but the last" system restore point.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

When you have done all this, please Run HJT again and post the new log here for me, along with the latest Ewido log.

Thanks

Thank you very much, UKBiker, for your assistance, and for replying so quickly. I was expecting to have to wait much longer. Anyways, I followed your instructions, but I couldn't figure out how to delete all but the most recent restore point. I did, however, create a new one. Here are the new Ewido and HJT logs:

Hi there Slugo76

This is Ukbiker. Thanks for carrying out the steps I asked for in my previous post. Just a few more things to do and you should be sorted out I hope.

Please carry out these steps. As you will be in safe mode for this, I would advise you to print these instructions out so that you can refer to them easily.

Step 1

Please boot into Safe Mode by carrying out the steps below -

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again, continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Step 2 (Safe Mode)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Place a Checkmark in the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\java\webdos.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: webdos - C:\WINDOWS\java\webdos.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Step 3 (Safe Mode)

Please delete these filesShown in RED using Windows Explorer(if present, they may not be there anymore):

C:\WINDOWS\java\webdos.dll

After that, Reboot into Normal Mode.

Step 4 (Normal Mode)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan, then post your new log here.

Thank you very much for all of your help. It think the problem is solved, as AdAware is no longer detecting any Malware, and Ewido is no longer detecting the webdos.dll file. Just to make sure, here is the new HJT file.

Hi There Slugo76 :tazz:

Congratulations, your log is clean, well done mate. ;)
Now that we have got cleaned up, how do you stay that way?

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Thank you again for all the help. I have already installed most of those programs when I was following the "Before Posting Please Read This" topic, but I will be sure to install the ones I haven't already. Again, I am very grateful you could help me fix this, and I am also grateful for all of the great information you and the entire site have provided me with. It's nice to know that there are people out there willing to help a guy like me who has no idea what he's doing with a computer.:tazz:
