"Run AS" Box
Hello and good day to you all,

This is my problem:
"Run As" box appears asking which user account I want to use to run this program.
This comes up every time I log on. Just started, never happened before.
Haven't changed anything.
It goes away as soon as I X it out, but its annoying.
I tried to get help from other sites without any luck.
Also tried to Google but couldn't understand what they were saying.

Running Windows XP Pro. 3................


Is their any way to stop this box from popping up?

Hi John,

It seems you are running Windows with a user without Administrator privileges and you have some program running on StartUp that needs Administrator privileges to work.

Using windows for day to day tasks using a non-admin Account its a very good security option against malware, but some times some small glitches like this need to be fixed.

If i'm right you should have another user account with Administrator privileges, it could be Administrator or other. Login with the other account, and let the account open for five or more minutes. Then log-off and logon now with our normal account to see if this fix the problem, i guessing its some software that need to update with Administrator access and after doing the work will stop asking for permission.

No I haven't downloaded anything recently.

I have 2 uses with Administrator Privileges, my wife and I,my guest is off.
I tried turning the pc off and back on with the other user account,
but the same box came up.

How would I check to see if its some software that needs updating?

I had this pc for a number of years and this is the first time this box came up...

Hi,

If you are running with Administrator privileges on XP the "Run As" box don't make any sense unless some program is requesting a "run as" of some kind.

Can you generate a report using Autoruns so we ca see what Windows its loading?

- Download Autoruns using this link to the desktop
- run the program
- let the program do a scan and the open the Menu Options -> Filter Options... -> unckeck Hide Windows entries
- let the program scan again
- make sure you are located on the Everything tab, open the Menu File -> Save and then save the file autoRuns.arn on the desktop
- please zip the file autoRuns.arn and attach the zip to your post.

Do you have any program to handle zip files?

If not you can install IZarc that is free and available here.

Did you managed to run Autoruns.exe? if so you have the report on a file autoruns.arn on your Desktop, right click on the file and on the menu choose IZarc -> Add to archive file accept the suggested name and click Add

A zip file its created, attach that on your next post.

Ran into another problem.
If I did it right,its on my desktop
but can't seem to copy it to post it.
On my desktop I have a bunch of Autoruns.

In the IZarc folder I have Autoruns.arn

The offending windows is presented also when you log with your wife account?

Removed malware advice. Not allowed outside the malware forum and even then only by a trained malware tech.

John there is a chance you may have some malware residing on your system so ti may be worth a trip to the malware forum to have them check it out. You can inform them it has to do with your BHO's.
