My problem started with my CD ROM opening and shutting without warning. Now the icon is gone from My Computer. I put the computer through the malware and found nothing wrong. Now when I turn on the computer, when I can finally get it to, it will boot up and I get the message "system CMOS checksum bad-default configuration used" then I resume and it will start up normally. I have to turn the computer off and on several times before it will start. It's a HP Pavillion x923 running ME. :tazz:
