Hello everyone im currently in the market for a new rig. I have a $1200 budget ontop of what i already have. HAF 912 case, 750 corsair ax psu, intel 120gig ssd and 1tb WD black hdd. I need something that is good for encoding video and will play the latest games.

need cpu, motherboard, videocard, memory, cpu cooler. Open to suggestions at this point. was thinking about a 2500k or 2600k with a 7950 videocard, or maybe an amd 8150 with a 7970. Also its usually pretty hot in my apartment since i live near the top. so whatever runs cooler would probably be better.

Well for one you need to make sure that all the parts you get are compatible, check that your case is a full ATX because for a good gaming computer you will need a big motherboard + im not one of the experts here if you want one of them to reply you should make it easyer for them post links to each part you have or post a link to all your parts on http://pcpartpicker.com/ also what operating system are you using?

You mentioned video encoding, so the hyper-threading ability of the i7 will actually provide you some benefit. If this were solely a gaming rig I would recommend the 2500k.

I'm a fan of MSI and this board has all of the features you should need including 2 PCI-e 3.0 x16 slots. Some prefer the higher priced ASUS boards, but I think this is a solid choice. Also, I really like the UEFI Bios interface.

You could go with 16GB if you'll be doing a lot of video editing, but 8GB is more than enough for most people.

You can go more expensive or cheaper based no your overclocking plans. This is a nice middle-of-the-road option

I would recommend waiting 2 weeks until the 660ti is released to see if there are corresponding price drops, but this would be my recommendation if buying today. If you need more compute power then go with a Radeon 7950/7970.

Some guidance for you;

Using an aftermarket cooler, a very important thing I must make you aware of is that you do not need the additional heatsink and CPU fan and if you did use it you would void your CPU warranty, Intel are clear on this, see below;

You have not mentioned having an OS disk or optical drive so I have included them in the list, if you don't need them they can be removed and so reduce your budget.
