I did not use the sfc arguments you referenced (sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows). I just used "sfc /scanow"

It looks like it would try to reference "d:\Windows" Which I do have, however that directory looks to only contain one subfolder "SYSTEM32" and several foreign language files.

But I will try as you suggest.

I created a new "Admin" account. Logged into it, but still cannot install a windows update.

I was not able to copy the code you posted. Can you put it into a txt file for me and attach it? I will then merge it.

Thanks

Please excuse the intrusion Rockmilk and G_Woods but just a thought if you don't mind.
If you can't find the reason you might think in the direction of a active infection. Some will stop Windows from updating. Just as a last step Rockmilk to think about. ;)

Rock,

Did the merge, restarted, then tried Windows Update without success. My Google Chrome browser is no longer working. I am going to try to download it.

Welcome, I have tried several scans for any virus and spyware and all appears to be clean.

What you are using won't scan as deep as the programs the Malware Techs have at their disposal. I'm just suggesting if Rockmilk comes to the end of what he believes is the issue.

Maybe it is time to check for malware on because the last registry fix that I sent you was from a freshly formatted windows 7 machine. Can you go to the virus/malware removal forum and start a new thread include a link to this one,and when you are given the all clear we can continue if needed. The registry fixes I have sent to you are the .msi fix and the .msi server fix these should have fixed your issue. But we can try one last thing if you wish open farbar service scanner and type the following msiexec.exe into the window and hit the search files button a notepad will appear copy the contents in your next reply.

Hey Rock here is the malware redirect if you would like it. This explains in more detail the step for the malware forum.

I suspect that you have some malware on your computer causing issues that we are not able to solve through means we can use here in the Tech Forums. I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found HERE. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
Add a link to this topic so that malware tech can see what steps have been taken here
