Help!!!!

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security Notification keeps warning me with this:
Infected file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys
Virus name: WORM_SDBOT.BKW

I followed the instructions that Trend Micro gives and it didn't work. I did everything you said it should be done before posting.... and nothing, it's still there.
:tazz:

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Thanks a lot...
:tazz:

I've done what you've said... but windows update didn't show me Service pack 1a as an option. Strangely it showed Service Pack 2 (downloaded and installed it a long ago) I installed again and some other updates.

The notice that Trend Micro gaves, now changed the name of the virus
TROJ_ROOTKIT.E , but maintain the same infected file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys

This is a really nasty infection, so please follow all instructions exactly as specified. If there is anything you do not understand please ask before proceeding with the instructions.

First, I need you to disable Winpatrol as it could interfere with cleaning your system.

Copy the below instructions (until you get to the purple text). Paste them into notepad and save it for use while in Safe Mode. This is important because it has to be done exactly in order to work

I need you to reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

After getting into Safe Mode, Go to Start > Run type in:

cmd

Click OK.

A black window will open up.

Copy the below line, exactly, and paste it into the black window:

attrib -h -r -s C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys

Hit Enter.

When it goes to the 2nd line, copy the below line, exactly, and paste it into the black window:

del C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys

Hit Enter.

Then type exit

[END OF INSTRUCTIONS TO COPY FOR SAFE MODE]

Reboot into normal mode.

Open Notepad, and copy everything inside the code box (Starting with REGEDIT4) below and paste it into a new notepad file. Go up to "File" > "Save As...". A box will open up. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as rdriv.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4

REGEDIT4

Locate rdriv.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

After the "merged successfully" prompt, please do the following:

* Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\ItunesMusic.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winmgc.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots, Run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O23 - Service: Windows Management Construct (winmgmc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\winmgc.exe

Close HiJackThis.

Go to Start > Run - type:

firewall.cpl

Click OK.

Make sure your firewall is on. Make sure you can turn it off then turn it back on and that nothing is greyed out
Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

Download, install, and run CleanUp!

Download Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot into normal mode.

Then, run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan, and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

Everything was going fine... untill I reached the part where i should make sure my firewall was on.
In Firewall says something like: For security, Group Policy controls certain configurations. (sorry but i'm translating it from spanish)
And it does'nt let me do anything.

So I haven't continued with your instructions.

What should I do?

Thanks

The reg I had you make earlier should have taken care of those entries. I'm not sure what exactly went wrong there, but I went ahead and made the reg for you. All you have to do is download it. We'll see if that works :tazz:

RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in Internet Explorer, it's "Save Target As") in order to download the fixrdriv.reg file. Save it to your deskop. Double-click fixrdriv.reg on your desktop. When asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES. After the merged successfully prompt, please reboot your computer and check your firewall again.
