across the top 'menu' bar are the following

Main | Advanced | Security | Power | Boot | Exit

Under Advanced are the following

Boot Configuration
Peripheral Configuration
Drive Configuration
Event Log Configuration
Video Configuration
Fan Control
Hardware Monitoring
Chipset Configuration
USB Configuration

it was under Peripheral Configuration that I found that last post.

If you highlight this and click Enter does it give you any options?

It does not allow me to even highlight it ... the only ones that are highlightable (changeable) are

Configure SATA as
S.M.A.R.T.

Hard Dis Pre-Delay

OK that won't help. The optical drives are being seen so that throws a wrench into it. That would suggest either a cable or a drive(s) issue.

I guess I could get a few more cables ... could this be a BIOS issue or no because it can see the drives?

I doubt it is a bios issue.

To save me reading all of the 38 posts on the topic - are the drives seen in Computer.
If not are they seen in device manager.

I have now read that they are not shown in computer
However I do not think you ever clarified if they were shown in device manager.

The advice was that if they were, right click, click uninstall and reboot and you said that did not work

HOWEVER ARE they shown in Device Manager

My brother-in-law swapped out a DVD READER with the DVD Read/Write to test that as well as a CD Reader and that didn't help.

Ok There is no need to quote my post back to me
Please only do so if you wish to highlight something.

Run this please
http://support.micro..._problems/en-us

I have just read most of the topic and I think you may have already run this fix.
However please run it again and if it does not work send me a screenshot pleas of device manager, including click view tab and click show hidden devices.

screenshot is with device manager open
key prt scrn key
in programs, accessories, open paint
click edit
click paste
click file
click save as
SAVE AS JPEG
not bitmap to which paint defaults
on reply use full editor and attach the screenshot

Also remember there was a known working optical drive tried and still nothing worked Mac. I would lean more toward the controller but they are identified in the bios so the controller has to be working.
