Hey, sorry i completely disappeared there, it's been busy here.
Once the pc had power it was pretty easy to put all the parts back in now they knew where they were and to take it through set up (against advice I know but i was so excited and on a roll)
The first thing I put on it was a temp thing to make sure the cpu wasn't initially crying of heat - it seems to be settled on a pretty happy 35c
I left it going for a while and downloaded a game to test how it managed that - it went up to 55c with max settings GW2 but no more than that

I know the thermal paste advice was that it could cause problems initially or 10days from now or at any point, so once I get the thermal paste remover in the post i guess I should re-do it, which at this point no longer fills me with dread

So a huge thank-you to everyone that helped especially all iammykyls and macboatmasters great explanations and clear instructions.

You BAD, but well done, So very pleased that you have the build up and running. Please don't delay too long in cleaning and applying fresh TIM. Read the installation instruction for removing the heatsink and replacing the heatsin, You must make sure that the locking tabs are re set, with the arrows facing the correct way.

If you have not already done so.

Use the update utility that came as part of your motherboard installation disk to update the drivers.

Update the OS.

Update the video drivers. I advice only to use the manufacturers website for the GPU, follow all their instructions.

Remember to backup your important DATA.

DO NOT use optimizing programs or registry cleaning tools.
