Modem refers to modem in the computer - nothing to do with your ethernet connection.

It should be disabled. - you do not use it.

Have you yet done the first of my suggestions

I am signing off so there is no rush from my point of view

It wouldn't "open" unless I clicked on properties. Is this what u want-has tabs=general, short cut, compatiblity and carbonite at top? It won't let me "run as" either...

Mac is off for the night and I am not really sure what he is looking for.

3. Go start, in run type
msinfo32

when that opens
It should be on the system summary page, click edit, click select all, click edit, click copy, minimise that window, then open a word document and right click on the blank document and click paste, save the doument.

Now go back to that first window, that you minimised

on the left pane click to expand components, click to expand network, click adaptor.

when that opens, click edit, click select all, click edit, click copy, open a word document and click paste., in otherwords do the same as before

Do the same please on problem devices.

Then send me those pasted results by copying to a flash pen and attaching the actual copy and paste of the results to your reply.

Also attach to that reply, please the make and full model of the desktop if it is branded.
ie: Dell Optiplex 390 - or whatever it is.

I don't know if this will give you everything Mac but try this.

Motherboard Info:

Download SIW from HERE and get the Standalone English version
It will install itself and when finished

Then Click on SIW Icon to run program
On the left side click on the Motherboard directory and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply
On the left side click on the Network or Lan directory and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply

Hi,
We keep getting an error message and to try again later when we do the download? Do u think our hard drive is going as the computer is now running sluggish and it is a 2004?? Should I redo the download or just keep trying it?

Well it seems does it not that the other computer also has problems.

Despite my desire to help I find it extremely difficult to make any meaningful progress.

If the computer with the original connection problem cannot open system information and the other computer cannot download SIW, then it appears both have problems.

Possibly another Tech may find that they can work with you

May I most sincerely offer you my apologies, that I cannot help further and I hope that someone else will step in and possibly be able to progress the issue.
