To set the download folder

Using IE find a file to download
When you select a file to download do you get the following sequence of dialogues
The first is the save dialogue - click save

OK lets uninstall IE8. The intention is to try and get at least IE functioning first

Go to Control Panel > Add Remove
Ensure that there is a tick in show updates

Select IE8 and uninstall
This will revert to IE7

Once done then see if IE will download anything

THEN

Download this small programme

Download Complete Internet Repair to your desktop

Unzip all the files to their own folder on the desktop
Within the folder double click CIntRep
The programme will then run
Select the items I have highlighted
Press go
Let me know if it is able to conduct the repair, there is a log at the bottom

In the add/remove programs it doesn't give me the option to uninstall ie8. I can remove any of the ie8 updates.

While it was running avg tried to tell me the CInt program was a threat but I had it ignore it.

ie isn't working now either. I open it up and try to load something simple like google and it won't load any pages. You can see the tool bar/address bar and the tabs but where the web page should be it is just white.

Could you disable AVG please and the re-run the internet repair programme followed by FSS

run farbar service scanner



Tick "All" options.
Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

If not does it uninstall from the control panel > add/remove ?

Well the internet files are all registered and good
The services are all functioning and the file legitimate

If you have no recollection of that programme it may well be worth uninstalling it
