Lg Rumor Touch SD Card Reader

Hello, I have a LG Rumor Touch from Sprint and it can't seem to read my SD Card even though it's inserted. It says Please Insert Memory Card even though the card is already in there. Do you think it's the phone's SD Card reader, do I need certain folders or files on the SD Card before using, or do i need software on my computer? Thanks for any help.
