1.Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2.Right-click the drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
3.Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
4.Click Start. Then Reboot your computer -
Depending on the size of your drive, this might take a while. For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it is checking for errors.

To download and install the System Update Readiness Tool, follow these steps: Click here to show/hide solution
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.If you use Windows 7, click System and Security. If you use Windows Vista, click Security.
3.Under Windows Update, click Check for updates.
4.The System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) is offered, only when there is a problem that the tool could resolve.
Click Install updates

lets check the hard drive first
HOW TO RUN CHKDSK /R ON WINDOWS 7 here...

put a check in both boxes
automatically fix file system errors
scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
then click on start...

you will receive a message asking if you wish to schedule a scan. Accepting this will perform the scan next time you restart your PC

click on y and press enter then reboot
then try updating again...
nojoy

lets try sfc /scannow...
Click on start...type in cmd...right click on Cmd.exe and click on Run as administrator.

In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter

The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.

we need to see the CHKDSK Log
Go to Start and type in eventvwr.msc...press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry
(wininit for Win7)
(winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.
