Kodak social Media sharing app installed by daughter on three PCs over the summer, this post is only in regards to one but will refer to others as B and C.

I have learn since this there is a known vulnerability in the Kodak App the can be exploited if running Java v6.31 or lower.

Subject PC "A"
HP Pavillion G7 Laptop
AMD A4-3300M APU
6G ram
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
64-bit OS
Windows Update up-to-date through yesterday.
MS Security Essentials
Comodo Firewall
Peerblocker 1.1

During investigation have downloaded
Malwarebytes
Kaspersky AVPTool
Lavasoft Ad Aware

Kids complaining PC was running dog slow. Comodo shows umpteen outbound svchost connections

Full Scan MS Essential and Malwarebytes show nothing

In poking around I notice Java is v6.31, try to update from Oracle site, screen doesn't lock but nothing happens either.

Put Comodo into panic mode and watch each item and stop when I see this Kodak social media app trying to modify protected COM settings, protected files and MS Security.

Run Kasperkey AVPTool and it finds trojandownloader.JS.iframe.cxk it's quarantined and removed. Run all three security scans again (in safe mode except for MS Essentials which won't run on safe mode)

Uninstall Java 6.31, but 7.6 will not install. Some one recommends Ad Aware which finds Trojan W32/generic and 800 tracking cookies

Clean I now install java 7.6 and go to uninstall Kodak app but UAC comes up in yellow and says do you want to allow C:/Windows/installer/30d8bc5.msi to make changes to your computer Publisher Unknown I click no and a warning message says you must get permission from an Administrator to remove this program, I am in as Admin.

Not sure where to go from here. But PC C that has java 7.5 on it does not seem to be effected. PC B I will save for after A, but I think it is the same thing.

THANK YOU in advance, to anyone who takes the time to read this even if you can't help your time is appreciated.

Jay

I don't see anything offhand. The slowness may be coming from running two or maybe 3 anti-virus programs. You have Microsoft Security Essentials, Ad-Aware anti-virus and it's possible that Comodo also installed its anti-virus tho I don't think I see it running. One is all you want. More than one and they fight each other and slow things down. Uninstall one of them. Of the two MSSE is probably the one I would keep. (Though I use the free Avast on all of my PCs.)

The program that pops up when you want to uninstall the Kodak program is the Kodak uninstaller and you need to allow it in order to remove the Kodak. Alternatively you can use the free REVO uninstaller: http://www.revounins...e_download.html

For what it is worth the Java 6.31 by itself is vulnerable so definitely a good idea to update. I like to clean the Java Cache before an update but it won't hurt to do it after an update:
Clear the Java Cache by following the instructions on
http://www.java.com/...lugin_cache.xml

Let's clean out your temp files:

Download TFC by OldTimer

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe

to your desktop

Please right-click TFC.exe and Run As Admin.
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself.

Now let's look and see if we can see why it is running slow:

Get Process Explorer

http://live.sysinter...com/procexp.exe
Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a minute for things to settle down.

File, Save As, Save. Open the file Procexp.txt on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

Your CBS log shows some problems so let's check the hard drive and also look for errors.

1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check. C:
2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4. Check both boxes and then click Start.
You will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, but don't restart yet.

Right click on (My) Computer and select Manage (Continue) Then the Event Viewer. Next select Windows Logs. Right click on System and Clear Log, Clear. Repeat for Application. Reboot. The disk check will run and will probably take an hour or more to finish.

Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Then type (with an Enter after each line).

sfc /scannow

(SPACE after sfc. This will check your critical system files. If it asks for a CD and you don't have one or it doesn't like your CD just tell it to SKIP.)

sigverif

Press Start in the new window. This will check your drivers. If you just get a few when it finishes tell me what they are. If you get a lot just look for those with newish dates (since about the time the problem started.)

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
http://images.malwar...om/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.

Before you go to bed tonight, start an ESET online scan and let it run while you sleep:
It takes hours but is very thorough. (It will work faster if you pause your anti-virus while it runs.)
Use IE and go to http://eset.com/onlinescan and click on ESET online Scanner. Accept the terms then press Start (If you get a warning from your browser tell it you want to run it).

# Check Scan Archives
# Push the Start button.
# ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
# When the scan completes, push LIST OF THREATS FOUND
# Push EXPORT TO TEXT FILE , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
# Push the BACK button.
# Push Finish
# Once the scan is completed, you may close the window.
# Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
# Copy and paste that log as a reply.
