copying from one drive to another

I went to start run and typed xcopy M:\ D:\ /h/i/c/k/e/r/y
I think this should copy all contents of M drive to D drive. It did seem to work mostly except for some bits did not copy across. How do i do it such that hidden files or protected ones get copied too.
