Please help!

I got a virus on my computer when visiting mail.com on the internet. It has stopped MS Media Player from working. Causes a Party Poker icon to keep re-appearing on the desktop, causes IEexplorer window to open periodically with advertising. Causes the active window to change so that if I'm typing something it stops till I click in the window again, and the processes will not let me stop them in task manager.

I have followed all the pre-steps to clean the system but it seems uncessful/or the programs re-generate.

Here is the Hijack This log and the ewido log:

There is an executable that keeps starting from the winnt/temp folder that always has a new name consisting of 6 alpha numeric characters. When I have deleted it in safe mode, it re-appears when I reboot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi tadgher

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please download all items to your desktop first.

Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Download the CCleaner unzip the file to install.

Please download and unzip
About:Buster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the box to the side and hit download updates, close the box . Don't run it yet.

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:
cwsserviceremove
cwsserviceremove.zip

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
CWShredder

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

2. Reboot into Safe Mode: Click here if you don't know how to do this.

3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once -> Click Task Manager -> Click the Processes tab -> Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes -> Scroll through the list and look for:

If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process -> Exit the Task Manager.

4. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with HijackThis and put checks next to all the following,
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\system32\lcxnj.dll/sp.html#11111
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://lightsource/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

Hi tadgher

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149
O23 - Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\System32\Ati2evxx.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

[*]Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINNT\TEMP\TYEA63.EXEExit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

Empty the recycle bin

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Dear KC,

I followed your instructions. However, in safe mode, the executable in the Winnt/Temp folder does not show up. There were two log files:
MSI1a332.LOG
MSI1eeee.LOG

They both have similar information in the file:
Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP.
=== Logging stopped: 6/10/2005 9:38:50 ===

When I reboot in normal mode, the executable reappears, always with a different name, which make me think it is being created by another program hidden somewhere.

Here are the logs:

Hi tadgher

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop. We may need it later.

Download Ewido Trojan’s and malware remover http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Ewido will auto-udate. Don't run yet

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run Ewido full scan. Save the scan.log.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O16 - DPF: {8C28EFD7-767B-11D1-8400-000000000000} - http://dw.dc.jdsu.ne....Insight.en.cab
O16 - DPF: {9b935470-ad4a-11d5-b63e-00c04faedb18} (Oracle JInitiator 1.1.8.16) -

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Run Ad-aware se let remove all it finds

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
C:\WINNT\TEMP\WOB12D.EXE
Let the system reboot.

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!: http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin. When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda, Ewido and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi tadgher

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
C:\WINNT\TEMP\ZUB2D0.EXE
C:\WINNT\system32\msdjgk.dll

C:\WINNT\system32\DWRCST.EXE
Let the system reboot.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.
